This blog isn’t always about interior design & celebrity lifestyles, but about my life experiences. Today I want to share with you the legacy of my Grandparents, Winston & Pansy Greene.
“We write the story of our lives with every decision that we make and in the end, all the stories and all those decisions ultimately become our legacy,” Pastor Chris Nicely. (Legacy Minded Church.)
I’m writing this post with overwhelming emotions after listening to my Grandparents on a radio interview ‘Despite Alzheimer’s, Couple Holds Tight To Old Memories.’
Too many emotions to describe but the one feeling that is screaming from my heart is how PROUD I am of these two amazing people!
Being leaders in their community and public speaking is nothing new for these too, so I wasn’t surprised when I heard they took a trip to DC to speak out on Alzheimer’s or when I saw their most recent article.
My fondest memories as a child are the times that I shared in their home. They have served their entire lives as members of Marriage Encounter and frequently opened their home for a place for couples to reconnect and share their experiences. I remember looking forward to these meetings and helping them prepare. One time we had a visit from a Priest that played his guitar, sang to us and for some strange reason he brought a snake for show and tell, LOL!!
I watched them weekly gather in their home with small groups, hold hands and pray together. I remember them laughing, sometimes crying, but what I remember most that has had a deep impact on my life is a phrase that was always visible, “Love is a Decision!” This phrase was on wall plaques, T-shirts, and something I often heard them say to each other. This phrase is engraved on their hearts!
As I write this I’m reminded of, 1 Corinthians 13:7. “Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”
What makes me so proud is that these aren’t merely words to them but a daily action that has been shared and absorbed by thousands of others to witness and spread. I’m so blessed to still have them both as strong examples in my life. They have shown me the light and love of Jesus, period!
I want to continue to focus on their journey, their decision to love and their amazing legacy, not the disease.
They are a true success story! Today, my husband and I lead weekly small groups in our home. We come together for prayer, fellowship and worship. Need I say more about the impact that they have had on my life.
Thanks for reading. I pray that in some way this stirs your heart, as it has mine. Their story today has made me reflect on the kind of life I want to live for my children and others.
What legacy will we leave behind?
Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love!
What a BEAUTIFUL legacy it is Shalena..God’s continued BLESSINGS to their LOVE and their life together. Thank you for sharing it now I see where some of your LIGHT comes from. Love you <3
