Something Old, Something New

Something old, something new. Most of us have heard that phrase when it comes to weddings, but it’s also an expression we can use in the world of interior design! Some clients like to start from scratch and get everything new, and others like to mix and match old and new pieces. That’s exactly what we did for this space that I’m sharing with you today.

Some of you might find yourselves in the same place my client was before he called me. He had started updating his room, but got stuck half way and with more time passing by, saw that his living room was turning a little chaotic. It became a catch all space, where all things random found a home. Sometimes we just need a little help from designers to tie it all together 🙂

We all know communication is key in any aspect of life! Same goes for a client-designer relationship. I like to sit with a client and ask them what theme, feel or color scheme they’d like to see in their space, to make sure their personality is shining through the room! Walking into this space I could see that it had the bones of a great living room area, which was a big win! My client had hickory wood floors that were in great condition, which allowed him to use the budget on other items. He also had a beautiful painting that was just waiting to be shown off in the right space! And that’s when I knew that we could transition in some older elements from the room, while still being able to bring in some amazing new pieces.

From one of our great designer brands, we were able to source a linen sofa and chair set, with one of their super functional and beautiful buffet cabinet! We found accessories such as a lamp, pillows, and the wonderful blue rug to tie it all together with the existing blue Venetian Plastered walls.

In order to continue personalizing the space for my client, I asked him what his favorite past time was, and you probably guessed it….music! We added some pieces that he already had, like his black guitar and pair of bongos, and put them along side the Pottery Barn flameless candles in the fireplace area. I also added an amazing Crosley Record Player in case my client found himself wanting to have a spontaneous dance party with his friends at home! When your space feels and looks good, you feel good too!

So, what are my main take aways from this project? Decorate with what you love. What makes you feel good? Do you have any pieces that bring back great memories? What do you have at home that you can use for decor? Sometimes the best pieces are right under our noses…

I want to hear more about you and your space!

XOXO Shalena
