As our work life starts to get back to normal and more people have returned back to offices, now more than ever we can appreciate a workspace environment that has a positive impact on employee health and wellbeing, both mentally and physically.
Recent studies show that an aesthetically pleasing workspace design leads to a more productive and less stressful environment.
Employees were asked which visual elements were most important to them, and while many of them had different opinions, the most common included natural lighting, colorful accents, colorful walls and natural elements such as plants.
We’re going to give you a few ideas on what you can do in your space to impact your offices! Not only improving the aesthetics, but health and productivity throughout the workspace.
Let’s start with wallpaper. Wallpaper is a simple and quick way to bring some color and fun on your walls without having to worry about the mess that comes with painting. Do not be afraid to go bold!
Wallpaper has the ability to incorporate visual interest to a room without making it feel too busy. Whether you work in a large corporation or a smaller scaled team, you could find what fits best in your space with thousands of patterns, colors and styles to chose from.
Our next addition is plants, real or faux. You may have heard of the term biophilic design before. It means to use natural resources to create a connection between outside and indoor environments, that reference nature in both subtle and obvious ways.
Biophilic design at its simplest level, for example, could be as effortless as adding plants. According to many studies, being close to nature is beneficial for your mental and physical health.
If you don’t have a green thumb, no need to worry. Bring in faux plants as a visual element to revive your space!
Alongside plants, lighting is another impactful way to bring upon improvement in the office. Did you know that we spend about 80-90% of our time indoors? Natural lighting in the workplace is not only prefered, but studies show that it has many benefits as well.
Employees that are exposed to natural sunlight are less likely to experience headaches, eyestrain and blurred vision. Natural light exposes us to vitamin D and produces more productivity as well.
Quick tip! If you are in a space that does not have any access to natural lighting, you could always add full spectrum light bulbs. They are designed to stimulate daylight and can brighten up a space with soft but warm artificial light.
Last but not least, pops of color in your design really make a world of difference. Sometimes the easiest options are to leave your walls clean and white, while bringing in colors through furniture and decor.
Color has a huge impact on visual and psychological effects in your space. The colors schemes grab the eye’s attention and even has the ability to influence a person’s mood, so if you’re thinking of adding bright colorful wall art or furniture pieces, I say go for it!
Gone are the days of boring, dull, cubicle farms! Adding the elements above will help boost productivity and morale to your office. Let’s be intentional together!
