Rest to Recharge

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,

he leads me beside quiet waters.

Psalm 23:1-2

This current season of my life has definitely been one of my busiest; with multiple projects, working on my own home, big presentation meetings, and recently adding babysitter to my niece and nephew to my résumé, I have found myself getting caught up in my to-do list. And while I am so so thankful to be busy, taking a family trip to Yosemite reminded me about the importance of rest.

Rest comes in a lot of different forms. For me this past week, I rested while being with my family, hiking, and spending a couple of days on the lake and in the mountains. It was refreshing watching my daughters go tubing, spending time with my grandparents, and waking up to the sound of the laughter of my baby niece and nephew. While this is how rest looked for me this past week, it normally looks a lot like a cup of coffee in the morning, listening to worship music, or even watching my “Young & the Restless” soap opera LOL.

How we choose to take a step back from chaos that may surround us is not what matters, but the ability to acknowledge that we all need to take care of ourselves, even if just for a moment. I always tell my girls, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” And while I know there is so much that goes on in our lives everyday, my hope for you is that you can rest, breath, and take care of yourself, so you can be ready to take on the many things in your world.

Love, Shalena
