Even though the summer is coming to an end, we still need to enjoy our backyards since we are in the midst of a pandemic. Creating a more inviting space can easily be accomplished with adding only a few things. Since the season is coming to an end it’s the perfect time to take advantage of outdoor furniture and accessory sales.
The first step in this process is evaluating what you or family needs. Would you like to add more color and accessories, more seating and plants, do you need to add an umbrella for protection from the heat? Ask yourself what will add value to your space?
In this case, my client said yes to all those questions because she only had two patio tables in a large area that wasn’t being used. At a time when many of us are confined to our homes, it’s so important to maximize the use of all our spaces.
Our second step in the process was to create a vision board. Color can be added through an outdoor rug, pillows, planters and plants. The client wanted to create a romantic mood at night so we also incorporated lanterns with outdoor candles from Pottery Barn. We added seating from Restoration Hardware and a large umbrella.
We are so happy with the way the installation went. We are still waiting on the landscaper to plant colorful succulents in all the planters placed throughout the backyard but the transformation isn’t just beautiful but practical for what this family needs.
What is it that you can do to spruce up your backyard? How can you make better use of your space or add a fun color pallet?
